Hello 7th Grade students! Welcome to 7th Grade English. This is a wiki page on which I will post homework assignments and upload important documents. I will review your homework in class, but please check the wiki page if you have any questions. Please email me at lpeale@latinpcs.org if you have any questions. Let's have a great year!

Week of May 30th:

For Wednesday, May 31st:
1. Complete two quote ID's. Choose one from the short story section and one from the A Raisin in the Sun section.
2. Study your vocabulary cards.

For Thursday, June 1st:
1. Complete two quote ID's. Choose one from the To Kill a Mockingbird section and one from the True Grit section.
2. Study your vocabulary cards

For Friday, June 2nd:
1. Work on your outline for the essay. You will have class time to work on Friday.
2. Study your vocabulary cards.

For Monday, June 5th:
1. Complete the outline for your essay. You may only have the outline only for your final exam.
2. Study all the other parts of the exam:
1. Study your vocabulary cards
2. Continue to practice and prepare for the quote ID
3. Study logos, pathos, and ethos. Know what they are and how they are shown in a speech
4. For those who have the extra section 5: Think about the comparisons between characters


Week of May 22nd:

For Tuesday, May 23rd:
1. People speaking on Tuesday should work on their speech.
2. The notes from chapter 7 of True Grit needs to be finished by class today.

For Wednesday, May 24th:
1. Study for the test on True Grit. Test is today.

1. No homework

1. Find your notecards.

For Tuesday, May 30th:
1. Complete the literature chart in the exam review packet. The front and the back of the chart must be filled out for class on Tuesday. It is the 3rd page in the packet.
2. I would recommend that you start studying your vocabulary words. For example, make notecards that have the word, the part of speech, and the definition.

1. Read and annotate part of chapter 5 of True Grit (pages 83-102).
2. Bring an independent book to read at the beginning of class.

For Monday, May 8th:
1. Finish reading and annotating chapter 5 of True Grit (pages 103-124).
2. The topic for your speech is due on Monday. By Wednesday, you need to complete the research sheet on your topic. That sheet is in your binder on page 10.

Week of April 24th:

For Tuesday, April 18th:
1. Get on line and look for a speech that you think is a good one. Listen to it again. Then, answer the following questions:
1. Who gave the speech?
2. For what purpose was the speech given?
3. What are three things you think are good about the speech?
4. Thing about ethos, pathos, and logos. Which one was the most present in the speech? How?


No homework while you are away. Enjoy the time with your teachers and classmates.

For Monday, May 1st:
1. Find an advertisement in which shows either logos, pathos, or ethos. Be able to explain which one and how.
2. Review chapter 3 of True Grit.

For Tuesday, November 15th:
1. Complete vocabulary page and cards for Act 2, Scenes 2 and 3.
2. Bring an independent book to read for the first 10 minutes of class.

For Wednesday, November 16th:
1. Go through your 3 dramatic scenes and choose one to take through the writing process. Print that scene out and bring to class to revise and edit.
2. Read and annotate Act III of A Raisin in the Sun.

For Friday, November 18th:
1. Complete vocabulary page and cards for Act III.
2. Finish 2nd draft of your dramatic scene. Bring the 1st draft, the 2nd draft and the editing sheet to class.

For Monday, November 21st:
1. Study for test on A Raisin in the Sun. Complete the review. You may not use the review sheet on the test, but you may use your copy of the play.

1. Write a 2nd academic paragraph responding to the following prompt:

Teachers give homework almost every night to middle school students. Homework can provide time for students to practice what happens in class, but homework can also be a burden for students and families. Should teachers give homework to middle schoolers? Why or why not? Provide evidence from your life to support your answer.

Follow the following formula when answering this question:
Sentence 1 - Answer the question
Sentence 2 - Explain your answer
Sentence 3 - Give evidence to support your answer
Sentence 4 - Explain how the evidence proves your answer
Sentence 5 - Restate your answer in a new way (one possible way is to say why your answer is important to other people).

1.Complete presentation.

For Wednesday, September 7th:
1. Bring independent book to read in class.
2. Get information sheet signed by parents.
3. Bring March and Brown Girl Dreaming to class.

For Friday, September 9th:
1. Finish your work from class - Find a poem in BGD that shows joy, regret, love, and anger. Annotate in your book where you see each emotion. Be able to answer why those words show each emotion.
2. Bring independent book.
3. Bring March and Brown Girl Dreaming to class.

For Monday, September 12th:
1. Write your own poem. Choose an emotion you want to show and then choose a specific type of poem to write that shows that emotion.
2. Bring March and Brown Girl Dreaming to class.


Week of August 29th:

For Monday, August 29th:
1. Please make sure you have finished March, If you read it over the summer, please review it and be ready to work with it on Monday.
2. Also due on Monday is the Seventh Grade English Questionnaire.
3. Finally, bring your supplies in. You need a black binder with 5 section dividers, You also need a black folder and loose leaf paper.

For Tuesday, August 30th:
1. Complete your research sheet.
2. Bring March to class

1. Come ready to research. You must have your topic selected.
2. Discuss class info sheet with your parents.
3. Have an independent reading book in class today.
3. Parent/Guardian Survey Due on Friday. Please have your parents/guardians work on it.

For Friday, September 2nd:
1. You will be working on your project today. It is due on Monday. Please have all your materials in class today.
2. Have an independent book in class today.
3. Parent Survey is due today.

1. Research project is due today. Bring your your poster, your essay, or be ready with your speech.
2. Have Brown Girl Dreaming read by today.Have a good weeken
